Our Tigers senior boys fought hard on Saturday against Hobart City before the Demons kicked away in the last quarter for a comfortable win 15.15.105 to 9.8.62. The young Tigers put in a strong effort but were physically overwhelmed at the end.
The game opened with an early goal to Hobart before the Tigers who were kicking with a slight breeze advantage hit back with goals to Brandon Batchelor, Tyler Carter and Kyle Smith from strong marks. The Tigers were playing open, running football and causing the Demons plenty of trouble. Hobart were able to find the big opening once more for the quarter to trail by 4 points at quarter time 2.4.16 to the Tigers 3.2.20.
The second quarter opened with a strong wind favouring the end to which the Demons were kicking. The Tigers opened with a fine goal to Jack Pearce in the first minute to go to a 10 point lead. However, the Demons then through good running and long kicking slammed on 5 goals to open up a comfortable lead. A good mark and goal to Mitch Walker just before half time helped the Tigers stay in touch at half time trailing 5.6.36 to 7.7.49.
Unfortunately for the Tigers the wind dropped away in the third quarter. The Tigers opened the quarter with a nice goal to Chris Nield. However the Demons then took control of the game. Inaccuracy in front of goal was proving costly. The loss of Brandon Batchelor was a huge blow to the Tigers at this stage. A late goal to Jordan Roberts and the Tigers were still in with a chance at three quarter time trailing 7.6.48 to 9.14.68.
Another goal to Jordan Roberts at the 4 minute mark saw the Tigers within 14 points. However, from this point the Demons took over the game and with some long kicking they smashed the game open scoring 6 goals 1 point for the quarter. The one bright moment for the Tigers was a long goal to Brady Rees at the 12 minute mark. The final score was Hobart City 15.15.105 to the Tigers 9.8.62.
Goal kickers for the Tigers were Jordan Roberts with 2 goals and one each to Brady Rees, Brandon Batchelor, Chris Nield, Jack Pearce, Kyle Smith, Mitch Walker and Tyler Carter.
Best players were Tyler Carter who was strong both down back and up forward, Matty Coad, who again fought hard in the packs, Blake McCulloch on the wing, Lachy Gadomski down back, Lachy Clifford on the ball and Brad Livingstone across half back. As well Brandon Batchelor was also dangerous up until his injury.
Meanwhile our development team went down to the Demons 9.16.70 to 14.9.93.
However, our under 18s again scored a strong win 14.16.100 to North Hobart 5.4.34 to maintain 2nd position on the ladder and give our club plenty of belief in the future.
Next week are the final games for our senior and development teams against Glenorchy at KGV. The seniors play at 6.30 pm Friday night while the development game commences at 10.00 am Saturday.
