The Tigers FC is excited for all our players, members and the whole AFL community in the area to announce the appointment of the new Senior Coach of the Tigers in the Tasmanian State League from 2017 onwards.
Scott Matheson has been appointed as the Tigers TSL Senior Coach for a three-year term commencing in November 2016.
Scott is a highly regarded coach with extensive senior and development coaching experience as both a Development Coach with AFL Tasmania (2012) and as the Senior Coach of East Devonport for 3 years (2008-10) and is no stranger to success as a three-time premiership player with the Burnie Dockers Football Club (2001, 03 & 04), a premiership player in the WAFL with Subiaco (2006), a premiership player at Wynyard in 2012 and Scott last played TSL in 2014 as part of Clarence’s minor premiership. Scott also represented the Tassie Devils in 2004 and also played for Ainslie in the AFLC in 2007.
The Tigers look forward to Scott heading up the coaching group as the club moves into a new era at the Tigers with a focus on strong leadership and coaching expertise to deliver more consistency and improved performance, whilst also fostering the ongoing development and success of the club and its players. Scott made it clear on his return to the Twin Ovals today for the announcement of his appointment, that he is keen for the young Tigers to be able to play a running brand of football that can wear opposition sides down over the full four quarters of games and he will relish the chance over the pre-season to prepare the players to have a strong defensive mindset and improved game awareness to make the best decisions with the ball in hand.
The Tigers welcome Scott to the club with a great feeling of anticipation and excitement of what lies ahead in TSL season 2017.
